It is done!
Color formatting now works in the live markup preview.
I have removed the vanilla tinyboard Quick Reply script and now when you are in thread view the post form will become undockable using the checkbox next to the name field or by simply clicking on a reply body. There are still some weird issues to iron out. And I will be having to work on the CSS files in order to make sure it looks alright on every theme. removed the Luna theme Grimchan theme needs work to look good with thingie.
Blz giv feedback

Additional known issues: unchecking the undock checkbox doesn't always work properly. I had more or less corrected it while editing the script but then my cat jumped on my power button :\ fixt
more updates
doesn't work on mobile WRONG. Works on smol screen now.
annoying page reloading and shit It now redocks without page reload!
resizing issues BAM no resizing issues
Remaining task list:
-make fake close button Autism status: Satisfied.
-make it leave a dummy gap behind so that the page doesn't snap around when closing and unclosingMostly done. A few minor issues to iron out, low priority at this point.
-make separate script to handle intuitive behavior so that users can decide whether or not they want it to appear on quote or not.
-remove text entry memory since it no longer reloads the page. boring conversation anyways. Get it I do the star wars quote? big funny!

the s0-s6 are all the named CSS font sizes.
s0 is xx-small and s6 is xx-large respectively.
I could have made the font size markup open-ended like the color one but that would invite some proper trolling. The live preview has many ways of breaking, too unfortunately. But it's there for if someone wants to make a fancily formatted post.

If there's one thing I'll come to regret…
it's probably the paragraph alignment.

Also it remembers the form position on reload but for some reason I can't get it to remember it when navigating away.
The worst part was getting the live preview to properly display color markup. That part took me the better part of 5+ hours. Everything else just kind of fell together nicely.

So to run a little feedback on the undocked section, the biggest I've run into fiddling around is that it's big.
Not necessarily in direct size, although that's also true especially since I tend to run a slight zoom in due to text sizes on a 2k monitor.
But the overall design is chunky and has some extra space that is largely unnecessary.
I'd say it'd be well worthwhile to cut back the name/email/subject section if possible, and just have the text blocks themselves.
Shave the box overall to just the fields, more or less.

Only other major thing of note I have is it's somewhat irritating how it automatically undocks whenever you click on the numbers for a post.
Ideally, that'd be a toggle.
It's not a huge issue, but when you're replying to multiple people, it can be a mild headache. Especially since it seems to refresh the page for some reason.

One pressing issue that snek pointed out, though, is that the whole reload to revert scheme is obviously not feasible for people with potato internet so there needs to be a better way. The whole summoning when quoting thing though was something I added this morning as feature parity for the OG quick-reply, though. But then the older one is smaller so probably less annoying to have pop up again suddenly. My attempts to make it remember where it was when rematerializing have failed so far. Some of our java libraries are woefully out of date and I don't feel like updating them since that's a lot of code that needs to be loaded in every time the page loads. I was actually thinking of making a completely separate script to handle intuitive behavior for website elements. Although I'm really burned out on coding right now.

And yeah I did want to remove the little table labels to the left but the scripting to get the labels to appear inside the text fields like the QR box had wasn't working for whatever reason. But I think I should get rid of the email field and set it to have a checkbox to sage since who the fuck actually posts their email unironically. And honestly having a subject field for replies is always something I thought was weird with tiny board so I could probably scrap that too. Especially with the advanced formatting that's available here why do you need a subject line
When you can just make a headline like this:
So I can probably just axe the subject field when it's in floaty mode for even more space savings. That just leaves a little box and a big box and I think everyone knows what to do with those.

So here is my feedback thus far

On PC the docked QR is fucking amazing and a great utility

On the phone it’s kind of tedious ngl

HOWEVER on my phone I’m always in a private tab so it doesn’t hold cookies or cache

 No.598[Top]

>>101074
Yeah I'm sitting on the throne right now. My phone was never big enough to materialize the old QR anyway so having one at all is hard for me to judge the experience. Next thing I fix is going to be the redocking method. That might make it less tedious since it won't have to reload the page to hide it. Checkbox is awkward too but unfortunately because it's attached to a form element you cant add a button because of some archaic quirk in web browser design. 90% of the old qrs code is pretty much just to create some bizarre pseudo-form thing so that they could add a close button

MORE UPDATES more shit fixed. Works better now. No longer reloads page to redock. Still some resizing issues especially if you add a bunch of file fields with vanilla file selector and/or preview panel and then undock it. If done after undocking works beautifully, though. Also moved preview button so that it will appear on edit page.

Still need to work out a better way to summon and unsummon the post form for people who like to do that.

Wew! That's 90% of my issues done.

A means to close it without docking the thing would be nice, if possible. That might be what you're meaning with the 'summon and unsummon' though.

In the technical sense it's not really opening or closing anything. It's literally just grabbing that part of the page that says "Posting mode: Reply" sticking the post form to it and then letting you drag it around. And then when unchecking the thing it places it back where it came from. Doing this takes about 350 less lines of code than rendering the original quick reply box.

Alright here's where we at.
clicking a reply body (i.e. the text part) will summon the post form. And when it's active there's a little "X" button you can click on to dismiss it.
There's still some screen bouncing issues, especially when summoning it at the middle of the screen it will usually end up lower than you'll want it but nowhere near as bad as they used to be but I assume people aren't going to be sitting there summoning it and unsummoning it constantly. Clicking the post number no longer summons it automatically. I'll add a separate user setting at some point to handle that behavior if users desire it.

Bro, I can only drag this thing downward by grabbing the bottom right corner of the reply text box.

It's super narrow even for this reply, but I've been known for taking pleasure in writing walls of text that no one reads, I'd have to use an external notepad to accomplish that. Is there any way that the text box could be expanded in width as well by dragging that corner or by other means?

Also how do I avoid being labeled as bottt, fuck, it happens way too often and I try to edit my text, but it often don't work, nigga.

The best solution for larger posts is to just redock the post form and scroll to the top of the page. Either way I'm just bumping this thread one last time and then moving it to /meta/ where I will continue to monitor for feedback but stop hogging the top of the page.

Here's an idea - summon the quick reply box upon clicking the post No.

I mean going to the top to undock is cool and all, but if you want to introduce REAL FLOW to this website, you have to prevent me from all this scrolling and or clicking,
