Some people might really need to supplement their diets with certain animal products, though as far as I know, a vegetarian diet or a diet that includes very little meat consumption is more than enough for most people in terms of health requirements.
Yet that's not really the case, we eat a lot of meat. And red meat as well which really is not necessary in our diets. I believe trying to argue from a naturalist perspective is rather dishonest in that it's by no means the real reason why people consume meat. People consume meat the way they do because it's a cultural expectation as well as a highly pleasurable act for most.

So really, to me, the dilemma has much more to do with how much pleasure are we willing to give up as a society and I really don't think that goes very far. I mean, this debate has also ramifications when it comes to the climate; how much are we willing to give up in comfort and pleasure to curtail the ecological disaster we are causing? The answer: not much really.

In my opinion these are really failings of our political systems, so in other words, the system that's supposed to help us make decisions for our society as a whole. I'm pretty sure most people would agree that maybe in a reasonable amount of time we'd like to see changes to our diets, it's an interesting discussion to have and there could be long term plans to achieve it that could be very much realistic… but our political system simply does not allow the for the discussion to be had in the first place.

Cptain, my captain.

"I didn't know what car Mirage was going to be at first," said Steven Caple Jr., director of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. "Where I'm from, in Cleveland, Ohio, I'd never even been in a Porsche before," he continued. "My actual first introduction to Porsche was Bad Boys I, so shout out to Michael Bay—that's all I really had."

Caple admitted in a panel during Austin's South by Southwest festival that the star car of the beloved action film Bad Boys inspired him to make Mirage a classic Porsche in the upcoming film. Mirage is a bit of a rebel himself, and the callback to the classic buddy-cop movie just felt right.

Fortunately, extraterrestrial Autobots won't be tempted to pull over in any sketchy places to debate the merits of in-car snacking, but this does mean they have bigger nemeses that necessitate transforming into giant robots to handle. It can be more complicated than you'd expect to make a cool Porsche into an Autobot film star, though—in fact, Porsche has a whole team that helps Hollywood studios get just the right car on the silver screen. Here's how it all comes together.

Character development
It starts with a character. Filmmakers have a certain look and vibe in mind when a new Transformer is "cast," so to speak. Mirage is a bad boy with an attitude, and the film, set in 1994, is meant to be a sequel to Bumblebee. That made Caple think of the 1994 911 Turbo from Bad Boys.

"I was born in the '80s, and I was a kid in the '90s… this is the era when I grew up," Caple explained. "This movie is like a time capsule to me."

"You get to '94, and everything started to change—from the wardrobe to the culture to the music to the cars," he continued. "You start to step away from square-bodied cars and say, 'hello curves.'"

The "casting" choice of the 964-era 911—a car that was dramatically smoother and more streamlined than any 911 before it—is a callback for the current Transformers series, given that Bad Boys was Michael Bay's feature-length directorial debut. Yet Mirage has always been portrayed as an upper-crust member of Autobot society, so it makes sense that the Transformers team picked an even rarer 964-generation Porsche to portray him: a 1993 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

"When I was designing the character, it started there," Caple said. "I talked to Owen [Shively] and the team at Porsche and said… he's going to be an outlaw. He's going to be a rebel. Going to be flashy. Very confident, but smooth."

That's when Porsche suggested looking into the 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

The Carrera RS 3.8 uses the same wider body shape as Bad Boys' 911 Turbo, but it was a homologation specially produced to legalize the Carrera RSR race car with a host of lightweight parts and a hardcore aerodynamic package designed for track domination. Porsche only ever made 55 RS 3.8s, according to Total 911, making it an exceptionally rare ride. In other media and toys in the past, Mirage has been a Ferrari and a Formula 1 car, so an ultra-rare Porsche feels like a solid fit.

While many of us associate the Transformers series with the heavy use of CGI, the filmmakers still need to source real cars to use for many of the shots—and Porsche has a whole team dedicated to helping filmmakers place just the right car into film and television projects.

Owen Shively, from that early ideation conversation Caple mentioned, is the CEO of RTTM Agency, Porsche Cars North America's exclusive representative when it comes to entertainment partnership requests like this. When Porsche needs someone to arrange a specific car for a new film or TV project, Shively's agency is where they turn.

It took her several minutes to reach the top. Once she arrived, she found herself looking down at a giant hole carved into the rock wall. It was easily five meters wide and three times that tall, and was completely devoid of any kind of door or trap. She climbed down onto the floor below and carefully approached the edge.
"I'm here for the dragon?" she asked the man who stood next to the enormous hole.
He nodded. "This is where he lives. You'll have to climb down inside."
She frowned, thinking that sounded dangerous, but she didn't say anything else. Instead, she proceeded toward the opening. There was nothing to hold onto; it was simply a hole in the ground with no sides.
As she stepped forward, the surface rippled and a second floor appeared underneath her feet. The bottom of the hole was now covered by a series of wooden boards. With a little effort, she managed to pull herself along to the next level. After making sure the first floor was solid enough, she continued moving downward until she reached the final platform. Finally, she made it to the end and looked down at the small room below her.
The space itself wasn't very big. It was filled entirely with a bed, which was occupied by a sleeping dragon. The beast was curled up in a ball, snoring away. Its head was located right next to a small pool of water. There was also a bucket of food nearby, but it was empty.
The girl frowned. That seemed odd. Why wouldn't the dragon be eating? Or maybe he hadn't finished it yet. Either way, she figured she'd wait a bit longer to see what happened.
After watching the dragon for a while, she finally decided to wake him up. She threw a rock into the room, and the dragon woke with a start.
"What are you doing?!" he exclaimed, reaching for the sword hanging from his waist.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you were someone else."
The dragon opened his eyes and looked at her. "Who are you?"
"My name's Sora."
The dragon blinked several times, clearly confused. "Sora? What are you talking about? I've never heard that name before. Who are you?"
"I'm here to visit you."
"Visiting me for what reason? Are you a servant of the dragon king? Or perhaps an adventurer?"
"No, I'm not either of those things. I just wanted to come and talk to you."
"Well, you're certainly here for a long time. Is this some sort of prank? Come to steal my treasure, maybe?"
"No, it isn't. I really did come to see you."
"And why would you do that?"
"Because I want to learn more about the dragon king. And since you're the only one who knows him personally, I thought you could help."

34477a No.107486[Top]

"I don't understand," replied the dragon, scratching his head. "Why would I need to teach you anything about the king? We're enemies, aren't we?"
"Of course not! I was told he's an amazing person. If that's true, then I should probably meet him too."
"How did they tell you such a thing?"
"I'm friends with a man who lives in the castle. He says that dragons are great leaders and that you're the greatest of all."
The dragon lowered his gaze slightly. "So that's how it is…"
"And you don't think it's true?"
"Not at all. I've seen the king fight many times, and he's always defeated."
"But you haven't actually fought against him yourself, have you?"
"True, but I've read plenty of stories about him. My teacher once told me that when I grow up, I should become the greatest warrior in the kingdom."
The dragon smiled faintly. "Hm. It sounds like you have some potential. But you may find it difficult to compete with the king."
"Why is that?"
"First of all, there are very few people who can stand up to him. In fact, I doubt anyone has ever beaten him in a fair battle."
"Is that so? Then why do you think I can?"
"Because you're young. People with experience tend to be harder to beat than newcomers."
"I see. Well, thank you for telling me all of this. But I still have to meet him eventually anyway, right?"
"Yes, you do. Assuming he doesn't die."
The girl furrowed her brow. "Wait, but won't you try to stop me?"
"I plan on staying in this room for a while. Even if I did leave, I don't think I could kill you here. This entire place is protected by magic."
"Thank you for being honest."
"I'm glad I could help. And now that you know all of that, it's time for you to go back. I'll let you in again tomorrow morning if you promise to leave before noon."
"Understood. See you later."
With that, the girl left the room. Once she had gone, the dragon closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
